I found this through ESPN.com and embedded it in case they take it down. Kenny hit the timing blocks which looked to have hit John.

You'll notice John in NOT in the part the camera is on. He's further back. After looking at that, no wonder he has bad injuries to his hands, feet, and legs. I bet they were completely exposed.

John Lift Flighted To Hospital After Round 2 [23 Sep 2007|03:24pm]

I've been keeping up on NHRA.com for results. John made it to 4th in points, but he'll probably won't race the rest of the season. It makes you wonder if he'll race again.

(W) John Force (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.083 NT-No Time
(L) Kenny Bernstein (Monster Energy/Lucas Oil C 0.037 DQ-Centerline

This was a scary one. Bernstein gets the hole-shot and he starts to pull away. Force never really makes up any ground until past the 1000 foot mark. Bernstein then starts drifting to the left, takes out the last timing cone, then runs into Force after the finish-line. Force gets the worst end of the situation, his car hitting the wall, the body flies off, then finally comes to a stop. Word from the top end, both drivers are out of the cars and alert but they will be taking Force to the hospital to be checked out.
The good news for Force, he moves into fourth place in the countdown with this win.

Preliminary reports are that Force may have two broken legs and a broken hand but further evaluation will be needed. He was Life-flighted to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

I have to admit, I haven't been the biggest Whit Bazemore fan. However, I really believe he got screwed at the end of the year. Then I really started rooting for him. The same goes for Lee Baird when he got fired. What a lovely surprise to be watching qualifying and see that the two of them are back together. GOOD FOR THEM!!!!

hey everyone, just joined, actually just found this community. I love drag racing, have been in the garage working on my family's drag cars since I could crawl. We used to own a 67 Firebird that would run 9's in the quarter. Right now my dad and I are turning a 94 TA into a chassis car and my boyfriend and I are working on a 68 Firebird, needs a lil work and a 400 motor but it's still a very respectable car.

An odd end to the evening...

Going through the trash at John Force Racing.

Nothing good. Mostly boxes for car parts. No car parts themselves. But they did get a new push mower for the shop!! : )

My fiance and I were trying to figure out which building is going to be Don Schumacher Racing. In the process, we found Matt Hines's shop. It's funny who has their company signs outside the buildings and who doesn't. We had to look through the windows to see pics of Matt Hines to make that conclusion. We knew it was SOMEBODY because there were just too many nice trucks/SUVs in the parking lot at 7:30pm on a night when NHRA is in Florida.

No, I usually don't do things like this. There was just no one around, and I felt like being a rebel. ; )

Wow, qualifying was pretty amazing at the Winternationals...I'm waiting for the eliminations to begin, 1 hour left...eish I'm nervous I'm upset that Gary Densham didn't qualify, that guy is awesome. I loved how members from his old team with force came and helped him try and get his car fixed, that was pretty awesome. And john medlen over there as well. And I liked how John still watched him and everything. Shows a great deal of sportsmanship and friendship. It's nice.

And what a mess tony got in, whew. Nasty. Good thing he's alright though, I thought he was going upside down for a minute until I saw that it was just his body. Man, scary stuff.

And how about that Morgan Lucas, that kid is going to be a fight this season. That's why he's my favorite, awesome driver and incredibly nice guy. and good looking too haha

NHRA has announced new technical specifications for 2005 as part of the world’s largest sanctioning body’s ongoing effort to combat escalating costs to compete in the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories at NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events, as well as improving the margin of safety and maintaining the quality of the show for its ever-growing fan base.

Beginning next season, all cylinder blocks must be forged, and blower overdrive is limited to 50 percent. The maximum percentage of nitromethane in Top Fuelers and Funny Cars remains at 85 percent, and NHRA will introduce at the Gainesville race a fixed RPM timing controller, to be set within the current range obtained by the top teams in the respective classes. For consistency purposes, in addition to the pneumatic system currently in place, NHRA will allow the use of electronic timers to be used for fuel and clutch management systems. NHRA will maintain a moratorium on engine development and require teams to use only one style of NHRA-approved nitromethane fuel engine.

“The cost to compete, not only in NHRA, but all other forms of motorsports, has escalated significantly in the last few years,” said Graham Light, senior vice president of racing operations and chairman of the NHRA Competition Committee. “As a result, and as the sanctioning body, we must maintain a balance between all competitors in the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories while focusing on providing entertaining and exciting side-by-side racing for our fans.

“The measures being taken are designed to continue the trend we saw over the last part of the 2004 season to provide fans with close racing and place the outcome of the race not solely on technology, but on the ability of the team to tune the car and the driver’s ability to navigate the track,” said Light.

At a recent conference in Detroit, the heads of the world’s major motorsports sanctioning bodies – Formula One, NASCAR, IRL, SCCA and NHRA – discussed the pressing need to control escalating costs in motorsports while improving and maintaining the quality of the show. The steps being taken address some of the most important issues facing all of motorsports, including NHRA Drag Racing.

In addition, NHRA will budget research and development funding to look at other ways to maintain parity in the sport, while working with teams to develop methods to improve safety. Among items to be tested in 2005 are carbon fiber driver enclosures in Top Fuelers, as well as mono-strut wing technology.

“We are working with all of our current manufacturers to find ways to provide exciting, close racing for our fans, while emphasizing and developing a vision for the future to improve the margin of safety and manage the inherent costs associated with racing in NHRA,” said Light.

Bazemore fined in Pomona incident [23 Nov 2004|08:22pm]

Funny Car racer Whit Bazemore has been fined $15,000 by the NHRA for unsafe driving and unsportsmanlike conduct at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.

Following his first round loss, Bazemore was observed exiting the racetrack at a dangerously high rate of speed and ignored the instructions of NHRA officials to reduce his speed. He further ignored directions as to where to safely stop and park his vehicle. His actions endangered the safety of the other race team crewmembers, ESPN personnel, and NHRA officials in the area. Bazemore had previously been warned about this practice on numerous occasions.

Additionally, Bazemore’s use of profanity during his conversation with NHRA Chief Starter Rick Stewart was both unsportsmanlike and detrimental to the sport. Bazemore’s conduct, in total, constitutes a violation of the Participant Conduct section on page 243 of the 2004 NHRA Rulebook.

Prior to participation in any future NHRA events, the fine must be paid in full. Bazemore also was placed on a two-year period of probation through Nov. 16, 2006. Any violation of NHRA safety or participant conduct rules within this probation period will result in the immediate termination of his driving privileges.

Hi. I've been part of the community for awhile, so I figured I'd introduce myself.
I'm Haley, and I'm from Indiana. My mom's ex-husband, Scott Wible, got me into drag racing when I was real little. He worked for abunch of different funny cars. The ones off the top of my head are- Cruz Pedregon, Whit Bazemore, and... it's really disappointing that I can't remember anymore. We built a junior dragster together, planning on me to race it, but unfortunately they divorced when I was around 8, so it never happend. I haven't been as into it since, I don't even think I've been to a race. I make plans to go up to the nationals every year, but it just never happens.
It's awesome there's a NHRA community. Can keep me updated.

Hey everyone, new here. I guess I'll introduce myself real quick. I'm from Pennsylvania, but I grew up and lived most of my life just a hop and a skip from Englishtown Raceway Park. (it was sweet being able to listen to the cars from my porch) Dad got me into drag racing and stock car racing when I was real little. I had little matchbox cars and all the other girls had dolls. I'm glad I've found somewhere where I can talk about drag racing. Feb. couldn't get here soon enough.

Oh man, I'm so lost without drag racing till february. I don't know what I'm going to do!

Although this last race in Pomona was pretty thrilling. Morgan Lucas (my favorite TF dragster driver, and quite possibly my most favorite driver in general), getting into the finals AGAiN was thrilling. I loved it. Too bad he made his worst pass of the day in the finals. And the frustrating part is that Shumacher made his worst pass too and Morgan could have beaten him had the car hooked up. UGH! Oh well, he will get his win and plenty of them next year. I'm excited! And I'm going to bristel! Im excited for that. Rock it. I'm done now :)
